I have a 1993 900r, and about a month after I got it the radiator fan went out (stuck in traffic on I-5 and the temp gauge nearly maxed out, bike cooled down when i got it moving again in the breakdown lane). I bought a fan off a '93 with 10k miles on ebay, put that on and it worked fine, but it's about 3 weeks later now and the same thing has happened. I was wondering if anyone else has had fan issues, if this is to be expected, etc. I suppose it's possible I was just unlucky with the used fan, but before buying a new fan for $250 I was wondering if there is anything I should check out that might be causing the fan to die? The fuses are fine, and as far as I can tell the electrical system is in order and this is the only problem I have had with the bike. Any help would be appreciated, as it is pretty damn frustrating having to worry anytime I get stuck in traffic.

Also, if anyone has a used fan to sell me, that would be greatly appreciated.

what i did on my 93 900 was i just rigged up a switch on the left fairing to turn on the fan when i am getting into traffic but i kept the fan switch on the radiator so it will kick on if my switch isnt on. but you might try that. it really helps.

Jonbrown, how is your wiring with it running to both? can you put up a daigram? mine was already done when i got my bike but i would like to have it still come on auto too. just not sure of the wiring. if you have time. no biggie..

 

That would be really helpful actually, worst case I can test the fan to see if the motor is dead or not. If you have the chance, please do link to the diagram, or if you could, just give me some instructions to set up the fan switch? I can't imagine it takes too much work. I'm hoping not to have to spend $250 on a new motor><
