Talking 900RR Vs. 1200CC BMW

Hey members, just want to say I've went head to head with a BMW 1200CC....both of us stopped at a light and said hi. He rev his so I rev mine......Then he got a better jump on green. We both pull a quarter mile......amazingly, BMW only beat me by 1 1/2 bike length or so. He push his very hard to a point that his bike's spitted, like a loud back fire. I did not redline mine (shift up about 8-9RPM) because of the 520 +3 rear DID conversion, I didn't need to pull redline.

We stopped at the next few lights, then he said he was so surprised I was breathing down his neck....He gave my bike a second look & he said wow fireblade 900rr! rare....

Gave each other a high five, then went our way.....I am just happy to have kept up with a liter bike on a fair lady......We'll kill them on cornering for sure LOL....

Which 1200 was it? I've taken a GS out and was pleasantly surprised by how well it pulled and handled.

BTW, you meant to say you staged next to a 1200cc BMW and he got the jump when the tree hit green. ;D

Yeah...BMW look nice, it's metallic blue, and has 1200 on the tank. It looks like a semi cruiser, sportbike...more cruiser than sport I guess...he said he got it brand new 4 years ago. I'll google picture to see if I can ID it....

Yah, both of us met up at a stop, no traffic. He nod his head so I did. He rev it a bit, so I did...but when I rev, light turn green...I never thought he'll throttle it cause he was in short & a T-shirt (SoCal weather).....so I throttle mine right after he jump on green...i went hard to 8-9000rpm.....2nd to 9rpm...by 3rd gear, where coming to next light. I was 1 1/2 bike length behind him....

His bike spitted hard at 2nd gear so I assume he may let off a bit... But that BMW is quick.....

Tru Dat....i think because our bikes are getting very (old) scarse...I have the means to keep it for as long as possible. Mine is getting near 30k....so I seldom go pass 8k.... 9k is pushing it already for me. Man, those newer models are super quick....lol but I like the sound of our older Carbs....

The s1000rr is ridiculously quick. I https://cbrforum.com/forum/off-topic...umbled-139847/ by a 2012. But the thing that truly made me throw up my hands was Yolie was starting accelerating faster than I could react. I don't think I'm a slouch or slow by any means.

But once she gets moving, thinking takes too long

Yeah...newer bike, FI, weight centralization...they are just making it better and better year after year....I'm happy to have kept pace....though the 900rr is not a liter, it's damn near being a 18yo bike.

I'm satisfy with the power of my 900....gives me the chills just thinking about all those powers of newer liter bikes.

Maybe one day, with some extra cash....I'll get myself one

Makes me wonder about the CBR 1000rr. All the dynos of the s1k show it makes its torque late while the CBR starts earlier.

Did you ever dyno your 900?
