My last bike was a 2006 zx10 and that felt way more powerful, I picked up my 94 900rr because I always wanted one but it feels more like a fast 600 ....I still love it though.

If you were to compare your bike verses another in the same era,,,then you might not see that big of a difference.
Comparing the 900 from back in the day to a recent 1000 is not a fair test. A friend of mine had a 04' GSXR1000, we raced many times on the open roads and back trails. The only time I had a remote or competitive chance was to ride beyond my abilities and some how keep it in the road on 2 wheels.
I rode a zx6rr once and was absolutely amazed at the ability of the little 636 and would not want to try racing against it.
So to answer your question "In My Opinion" the old 900 would not compare to well with the newer bikes but it's not a fair comparison to any degree. I've rode other bikes but I love my trusty 900

I agree with stein for the most part, just remember "it's not the size of the stick that matters it's how you use it" I went ridding with my buddy on Sunday and it pissed him off that I could run away from his 03 r1 in a straight line and in the twisties. I used to beat up on him pretty good with my zx10 but I never thought I would with this little 900.

Yeah. I Luv my trusty 900 too. I'm not saying, it's not a powerfull bike, at all. I Like the size cuz i'm pretty tall and my 96, 900rr is a husky bike. So, it fits me like a glove...just wondering, man! cuz alot of dudes always ask, "ís that a 1000?" Also, I was wondering if i'd be able to compete against these newer 600's and 1000's. I keep up pretty good with my freind's R1, sometimes i'm ahead. But, I don't know if he's givin it all he gots! I rode my freinds 2006 SV650, and it was descent. Can't say it was faster or more powerfull then my 900rr. I think i'd dust him out in a race. It feels like my 900rr has alot of torque in the rear tire!

I go against newer 600's on the track all the time. Top speed is not as much as the 900 and I run away from them in the straight. A proffesional racer could lap us several times on a track with the 600 because of his ability to out run us in the corners. I had a suzuki 1200s blow by me on the straight but i got him in the corners. My point? it is the rider not the bike. Flat out drag racing yeah the modern 1000's will smoke us..but I pass gsxr1000's in the corners all the time. Another point and a good one brought up by my best friend. Have you used every ounce of potential for your bike?(900rr) my answer..NO! use your 900..get to know it and yourself. Find a local track and go have some fun. When you have pushed your 900 to its limit and your 100% sure you can do better on a modern bike..go for it..but in the mean time..enjoy!!!! So what if your buddy has a modern 1000! has he taken it to its limit? i seriously doubt it.

the difference is about 20 to 30 hp....which on a 350lb motorcycle is a lot, but it is more than simple horsepower.

here is a comparison...you decide the relevancy. the 98 900RR i have is light years ahead of my older bikes. my CB 900F is 100hp but about 600lbs. in its day it was a monster, but as things go in the motorcycle world, it was quickly displaced by better machines.

ME riding the F vs. ME riding the RR, i can tell there is a BIG difference in over-all performance.....however, the old adage that a skilled rider on a lesser bike is as good or better than a novice on a superior bike will always hold true.

my RR is rated at something like 120hp, is less than 400lbs, and has modern rubber and suspension. it is fully capable of "keeping up" with most of the bikes on the road, but i would be hesitant to try to beat anyone on a newer bike, especially one of bigger displacement, and would never be able to outrun a decent rider on one. it boils down to the rider more than the bike in 90% of races, not so much because of the difference between bikes, since simply making a bike faster is a matter of engineering.

there is a difference between the bikes you mentioned. if you were to ride them yourself, you would notice it. my point is it is probably more important to work on your riding skills than to worry about how much performance the bike is capable of. for what it is worth, older bikes can be upgraded to match the performance of newer bikes for about what it might cost to buy a newer bike, but the older bike would be more "unique".

I like the way you think rtabish, our bikes are unique! I love my 900RR, 1996. Performs like a champ. I actually came off a 2004 Suzuki, GS500F, that I am selling in New Mexico. I felt comfortable, and confident to upgrade, and I Love the fit of the CBR 900.
I respect your opptimism, when you say our, RR's can be upgraded to compete with the, modern bikes. I hope to accomplish this and, am currently upgrading my 900RR, to be a unique bike, of it's class.
My next upgrades are, EBC sport racer clutch and springs, Exhuast headers, Yoshimora pipe and K&N air filter. I have a UNI, but I was thinkin the K&N would help it breath better. Hopefully i'll get all around performance by helping my 900RR, breath eazier.
