900rr "get gas idiot light"
Ok guys, I did a "get gas idiot light" (Quote from speedextreme) mod on my 900rr. As I don't have my f4i gauges yet I hooked up a very small not super bright led on my stock gauges to use as temp. Any way.....
I used the contacts off a miniature bayonet lamp base I had laying around for the **** contact and a flashlight springy thingy for the petcock side contact.
I took the **** off my petcock assembly and slightly bored one side so that when I put my contact in the **** would still fit onto the petcock. I came to the conclusion that this would be the best way to put the contact on the **** because it is sandwiched and cant fall off no matter what.
Because my contact has two holes I ran a wire threw them then soldered it in place. This is my negative (ground wire) that will run to my gauges.
Now on the petcock assembly itself, I removed the black paint it had and roughed up the surface with sandpaper then JB Welded my other contact to it so when my **** is pointing up (reserve position) the contacts would be firmly touching each other.
On the end I soldered and connected to the battery's negative terminal.
Now to hook up the light on ANY gauges or just a small led light take the positive wire end of that light and connect it to a power source preferably from an ignition lead so the light does not stay on ALL the time when you are in the reserve position on the petcock, and just hook the negative wire side of the light to the lead coming off of the petcock ****.
Hope I explained it indepth and easy enough.
The pictures are from my picture phone so they are not great. If anyone needs me to explain anything or needs more pictures let me know and I will do my best to help.
