Angry 3rd owner 1998 cbr 900rr-just found rod knock suggestions welcome

i just picked up a 1998 CBR 900RR, it needs a little bit of work, but i should have it running shortly, i know it has a leak inthe tank, and has sat for four months, so im going to start by fixing the tank and checking all my fluids/plugs/brakes and lights, any suggestions/pointers are greatly appreciated...on to the pictures, ill get more/better pictures tomorrow

Might have to clean those carbs as well. I had one that sat for a while before I got to it and the carbs leaked like a sieve. I shelled out the money for a full rebuild and jet kit (I couldn't find a kit so I just ordered new jets that weren't included in the jet kit and gaskets from Honda).

Nice bike btw. I have some spare forks if you need them!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnddd, my worst nightmare, it has rod knock, ugh, so a rebuild is in order, guess ill get to ride it next summer :/

to anyone reading this, is there anything other than the crank and the bearings that i should give a once over while im in there, ive rebuilt the engine in my integra, so i have a mild amount of experience. i guess im currently in the market for a new crank and bearings and a gasket set, not the way i wanted this to start, but hey when im done itll be basically brand new

Is it that you need to just shim the motor? Or would that be included in the rebuild?

Sorry to hear. I did come across that bike a little while ago on CL and he had stated that it was a dropped cylinder/bad bearing. (ad is still up actually)

Then I had seen a recent ad for the same bike but it stated it had fuel problems and did not mention anything about the bad bearing.

Did he inform you of the bad bearing? I am curious. Again, sorry about the bike. I recently bought a 99 900rr and it turned out to be a project. I knew it needed TLC, but not this much! lol But I do love the bike, just have to spend more than expected.

Plus, its Florida, you can ride all year round! Unless you came out of state to purchase. Hope you get her up and running soon!

no didnt tell me, i came across that ad a few days after i got the bike Oo

i got it alot cheaper than advertised so even if i parted it out id make some money, im thinking ill part out the engine as best i can and purchase a different motor, ive already come across a few in the 500-700 range, ill work on pulling the engine slowly this week, depending on how bad it is i may decide to rebuild it, but for now its up for sale on CL, maybe a lowballer will offer me a few hundred, i just want some money towards getting it running

well i have a new engine on the way, its supposed to have 23k on it

im also in the process of painting all of the pieces, i havent chosen a color yet but ive already got everything sanded down and im working on crack repair

ive got the bike torn down (to the point that it fit inside my integra) and it is waiting for its heart transplant to arrive (sometime this week) i plan get new plugs, clutch, oil/filter, coolant, brake fluid/pads, and a new radiator (mine is in pretty bad shape) i think in a month or less it should be fully put together and ready to ride im getting excited, ill update with pictures when the engine arrives
