Default 2nd gear is gone

I have a 93 cbr 900 and second gear has been a problem sometimes mainly downshifting it would grind. But know it will not stay in second gear it just drops right back into neutral. I assume it is probably a tranny issue but wanted to see if anyone has had this problem and knows a fix. Thank You, Drew

Unhappy

the trans has to come apart.you will need a new second(driven)gear,a new sixth(driven)gear,a new shift drum, and I'd replace the shift fork as well, just in case.I'd also reccomend having the transmission undercut, otherwise you'll have the same problem later on down the road.I just fixed my bike with the same problem.from the gears slipping apart from eachother it chipped a piece off of the shift drum(that is why you have no second gear at all now)I had my gears undercut and now it works great.sorry for the bad news. hope this helps

Hi. I'm new to forum and my language is not very good but any way i just fixed my 99 cbr 900 today. It's very easy( took me like tree hours). What happen is one of a slot on shift drum got worn out. If your gears are good then you don't have to split your engine . If you need manual, let me know and I'll email it to you. You can see my pix at http://theigor.net/CBR900Repair/
