Default 1996 CBR900RR Won't Stay Running

Sat for a few years, replaced and serviced all major components. Filters, plugs, fluids, etc. Won't stay running

Good day to you. If the bike has sat for that long it's pretty much guaranteed you will need to remove the carbs, break them all the way down and give them a thorough cleaning. There are no shortcuts with them. Many have tried and many have failed.

Probably can't be proven but... does it know your screen name? Might be a little upset by that... Also, carb cleaning!

@IDoDirt is the expert. He’s the carb bike encyclopedia. Having said that some is on here have done it more than a few times.

the 1st step is break them all the way down. They need to be totally disassembled and separated into four separate carb bodies.
you don’t have to do it but I like to keep the bits and pieces of each carb separate and stay with the body from which they were pulled.

you will need compressed air. If you don’t have a compressor canned compressed air will work fine. Carb cleaner is needed also. Non plastic containers in which to soak the parts. Carb cleaner will eat rubber also so it can’t be around gaskets or o-rings. It is very harmful for your skin also.

it might be a good idea just to replace all the o-rings while you are at it as they will go bad with age.

There is a guy on YouTube called mrmaxstorey. He has several great videos, some of which are for carbs and cleaning them. I’d watch them. There are tons of threads here also that show step by step cleaning steps. Of course we are here to lend a hand.

Take lots of pics as you disassemble they will come in handy. People sometimes get tripped up reassembling the choke rail and spring so take many photos of that.
