Default 1/4 mile set up info needed. HELP!

Hey guys (and gals)
im off to santa pod race way in a couple of weeks, its a drag strip in the uk for those of you who don't know. Im riding my beloved cbr900rr rrx 99. i wondered if anyone on here has ever taken theirs to the strip? if so, what sort of times were you all getting and whats been done to your bikes and any other helpfull tips you might have. i put on a 1 down front 2 up rear sprockets and raised my back end 30mm, full d&d system can. im gonna be up against my dads triumph daytona so HAVE TO WHOOP HIM! Should i adjust tire pressures for the strip or use road pressures? cheers in advance.

As with just about any situation, the rider will make much more of a difference than any modifications to the bike. Your launch will be the most important/difficult thing. You can try to feather the clutch on the launch where it is barely pulling the wheel off the ground. Once your tires are connected you can just nail it and shift with no or little clutch. I ran a best time of 10.92 with pretty consistant 11.0's with my stock '94. You should be able to take your Dad's Triumph.

I would go somewhere safe and practice your launch. ie. your rpm and clutch slide. after your comfortable with it, keep in mind that the track will have alot more grip! so you may need to lower your rpm a little. my one, and only run, i popped a wheelie at launch and had to let her down and hit it. still did a 11.2 but could have done better if she didnt pull up so fast.

at that time all i had was a slip-on. the rider is a good part of the outcome of the race. get your launch, timing right, and you can beat anything.

be safe and rubber down!

I say you just run what you brung to get a baseline and see what you need. I dont' get how you guys are getting such good times. My launches are teh suck for now, but hopefully I can dip into the high 10s soon enough.
