Default xenon lights - street legal?

i was about to get these lights for my bike. I though to ask first what does it mean when it says wether its street legal or not? whats the difference?

Another question on the side, would it "really" hurt if i use 100w bulbs? O_o
Thanks.

Those should be fine. I've got something similar to those installed in mine. Looks so much better than that yellowy stock colour and much brighter. Street legal is whether it's been DOT approved for colour, brightness, safety.

If your bike takes 55W bulbs and you put in 100W bulbs then yeah, it would wreck your bike a bit. Maybe not right away, but in the long run it can't be good. I've heard it could get too hot and melt your harness as well as fry your wiring system. I wouldn't take that chance.

Damn I bought some bulbs like these on ebay for $20 shipped. If I would have seen this post 3 weeks ago, I would have bought them.

The ones I bought say they are DOT approved and look much like what this is.

I wouldn't run anything but 55 watts in my bike. The guy who I bought my bike from melted the plug that directly attaches to the bulb with an 85 watt bulb. This was on the high beem side.
