And correct me if I'm wrong but even at 20 over the speed limit, its consedered reckless driving and punishment up to jail time or suspension of license.
that is what you said, right?

I also have to disagree with you on the function of a police officer. what do they do to protect people? they don't show up until after the damage is done. say somebody wants to kill you. you know that your life is at risk, but the police can't do anything until you're either dead or in immediate danger. sure, you can file a restraining order. then, when the person kills you, the cop will arrest them for murder AND violation of a restraining order. i really don't see where the "protect" function fits in here. I recall one episode of Simpsons that pretty much sums it up:

Wiggum: Fine, let me tell you what I tell everybody who comes in here: the law is powerless to help you.
Marge: Do I have to be dead before you'll help me?
Wiggum: Well, not dead -- dying. [Marge gets up to leave] No, no, no, no. Don't walk away. How about this: just show me the knife ... in your back.

Theres not muh they can do with the murder situation but on a daily bases they do protect by stopping people that are wrecklessly driving.

The Officer wasn't racist at all. Where'd you get that at? He was just doing his job and like other people have said you're VERY lucky he didn't take you to jail. No offense, but anyone whorides like a dip**** on public roads deserves to go to jail and shouldn't be allowed to own a bike, sorry.

The cop actually told me that he always takes bikes to jail, just because he can. and, he claimed he rides too. He must have like a vulcan or a harley or something.
He has a scooter!!!!!!!
i swear, every damn cop says they ride haha, out of the 3 or so times ive been pulled over on my bike two said they rode... one even claimed to be "very experenced" when i asked him if he knew anything about motorcycle tires after he asked me why i was swerving in my lane ( i had just rode over a ton of those tiny slippery rocks, wanted to make sure it was off of there b4 i made the turn coming up). i wanted to say than you should know in all your exp. but i just decided to keep my mouth shut... now that i read all these post and all the police officers are saying that they ride too... i do not belive them...

I am going to have to second thatabout bonehead cops. I am an agent with a federal law enforcement agencyand a buddy of mine from work was recently pulled over for not making a complete stop at a flashing red light. It was about 1 a.m. when we all left work after a beautiful drug seizure (Sorry to all those pot heads out there). My buddy was still in uniform with his weaponat his side when the cop pulled him over. Just as the rookie cop approached the drivers side, he stated that he was a federal agent and that he had a weapon. The rookie probably just heard weapon and automatically his the panic alarm. My buddy was asked to step out of the car, place his hands on the hood and not to move at all. The rookies field training officer removed the weapon from the car and placed it in the squad car. By then, about seven other squad cars arrived to assist. The entire time my buddy was telling them that he was also a law enforcement officer and that his badge and credentials were in his pocket. They refused to even look at his badge and i.d. Our supervisor happened to drive by the scene and asked to talk to a seargent to calm the situation. Well to make a long story short, one rookie, a FTO, seven other officers, a seargent and leiutenant were on the scene and it took them all of thirty minutes to get the big picture. And that picture was that a F***ing ROOKIE and field training officer f**ked up royally. My buddy was released but with one more slap in the face, he was given a ticket for failure to stop at a flashing red light. Needless to say a letter to internal affairs was sent to that department. I am a law enforcement officer and damn proud of it but when you get jacked up by some idiot cop, I feel ashamed.

well being a cop and a biker i have run into ******** cops, but i also have to say the cop was doing his job. could he have been nicer? definately. but you have to think about the amount of times in a day someone pulls that race card. then ive been in a patrol car with a crapload of lights and a siren and had people go for miles before they see me. makes me wonder what the hell they were doing that they couldnt see the UFO behind them. Ive met a ton of bonehead cops that gave me tickets and bluntly told me they hate bikers, despite the fact that im a cop too.

everyone and their brother has told me that 20+ over constitutes reckless driving and automatic arrest, double the limit constitutes reckless driving and automatic arrest, over 100 constitutes reckless driving and automatic arrest ...i'm guilty of all of those things, mostly in a car, but i've never been to jail. The same kinds of people have told me 10 different laws regarding license plate mounting, license suspension, surcharges for excessive speed, the policies of proper lighting and signals, laws regarding vehicle modification, and they have all been wrong. People will never keep their damn mouths shut when they don't know what they are talking about, so it is up to the people receiving the information to weigh it and decide whether that person really had any clue what they were talking about, or if they were just regurgitating some crap they heard on a forum, or from their buddy's brother, who knows a lawyer. That's the problem here - ignorance is contagious.

You can not be taken to jail for speeding in texas. period. if you made an illegal lane change while speeding, you can go to jail. at the officer's discretion. if he can prove that you were driving recklessly, he can take you to jail. again, at his discretion. speeding alone is no grounds for arrest. And, while i may drive fast, i never endanger anybody's life. maybe my own, but that's my prerogative, and if i can tolerate the risks and consequences inherent with driving fast, then so be it. he also wasn't in traffic - no cars around at all. i was bringing to light the fact that, with his situation being identical to one i've encountered numerous times before, he was treated completely differently.
There's actually two laws you can't go to jail for - speeding and consumption of an alcoholic beverage while operating a motor vehicle (not DWI, mind you).

You're also right in that there are NO guidelines or laws in Texas for reckless driving based on a speed.

Reckless driving is also very difficult to prove. By definition, if you don't have or cause a wreck, it wasn't reckless. It's like following too close - the law says you have to be able to stop. If you crash into the guy in front, it was too close. Otherwise, you're OK.

I had a DPS officer, who rides, ask me where an Inspection Sticker had to be mounted and I explained the law. So...even officers don't know the whole code book, they have no real understanding of some of the traffic laws (and unfortunately, neither do the municipal and justice court judges). I have an advantage in that I taught traffic law in the Police academy for over 10 years in the Tarrant County area. If I get stopped, I'll argue when it's bullsh**, and quote the law.

This guy, probably just hasa hard-on for Sportbikes. Doesn't matter the color; he thought he was trying to get away and the adrenaline started pumpin'. All downhill from there.
