Did you not need to key the surface first with some sort of fine sand paper or wire wool first so the paint has something to stick to?
when i sprayed the screen on my old cbr600 F-L i keyed it, cleaned it, primed it and sprayed both sides to save from getting that 'orange peel' effect

you're almost ALWAYS gonna get the orange peel when painting plastic - the material has too much flex not to - and not to mention the pores in it - its just not the same as metal -
thats why whenever you take a car to the bodyshop the bumper never quite matches the quarter panel again - just different surfaces
