Default WIDE LOAD

My rear tire is a 190. What is everyone else here running on the back and how wide can you go on a 600RR?

I believe if you go any higher than a 190 you will run out of real estate 190 is what a gsxR 1000 uses most common for a 600 is a 180 55 17 you will find it a bit lighter as well

sport rider did a write up on that and found 190 was not good unless you have a rim that is made for it. the tire is not the right shap when its on the rim.

Just because it fits does not make it right, your 600RR will handle better with the proper 180/55-17 installed

much agreed. if the bike performed better with the 190 rear tire, it would have came with it from the factory. the 600 class is very competitive and honda would not have put themselves at a disadvantage with something as trivial as tire size. but thats only in regards to performance. if you are after the fat tire look, you might be able to get away with a 200 but thats about it. also tire demensions are different from manufacturer to manufacturer. one 200 might fit but others wont.

I just like the look of the fatter tire but if it's not safe to ride on it I'm going to get a 180. When you say it's not the right shape, what does that mean?

Think of it as different size bowls. One bowl sits nicely, with a good contact patch on the table.. The other has a skinnier contact patch on the table, but is the same top diameter as the other... 1 answer could be height, or it could also be that the bottom of the bowl is larger than the top? right?
Well a 190 tire on a rim that a 180 should be on, would give you more tire in the same rim as the 180. So, it makes the tires contact patch different due to more rubber being forced into a smaller rim...

I ran a 190 on my bike when I stunted cause I could lower tire pressure down and do wheelies easier. and more stable.
I used a 180 when I rode daily. Its better, and you can toss your bike around.

perfect analogy onewheelin, lots of people come in to my shop wanting a 190 on there 600 cause they think that a wider tire will give them a performance increase like it will on a car, but on the bikes you essentaly have to sqeeze the 190 on to a smaller rim, it just doesnt work as well
