Default New tire, more wide?

Well my rear wheel tire is in crap condition on one portion the metal strands are even showing going vertical for about 3 inches. well anyways i need a tire TODAY. i called some place and all they have for me is a 190mm i have a 170 at the moment, i called my dad and he told me a wider tire will make you consume more gas and it will be slower? my bike is a 93' cbr 600 f2 its not the fastest thing in the world or in the best condition i just use it to go to work and hangout but i mean i do like going fast every now and then? any suggestions? should i move up to a 190?

https://cbrforum.com/forum/cbr-600f2...re-size-58044/

Stock is 160/60/R17, 170 will fit the rear.

front stock is 120/60/R17.

Apparently 170 is the largest that will fit the rear without modification, but don't quote me on that. I wouldn't get a 190 if I were you.

Handling would be affected...you run the risk of tire rubbing...aka it may not fit. In fact, it probably won't fit. Look for a 160 or 170, you'll be thankful.

rear tire size on f2 and f3 cbr's

Your dad probly means it will turn slower and handle like crap. As already said a 190 will not suit a 4.5 inch rim, you really shouldn't go any wider than 170.

ditto on all recommendations. A 190 is not going to fit your 4.5" wide rim well. It will also weigh more, which could be what he was talking about on fuel mileage, and it will also be a little taller, which will make the motor work a little harder per revolution.

160 or 170 on a F2 rim. If it was a F3, some like the 180. Wider is not always better.

Let me know how the wider rear tire works out for you. I'm running stock tires but the chain is super close to the edge of the tire. Running a 190 will definitely be risky. You'll probably rub the tire against the chain and rear brake line. I want to get wider rear tires as well but I don't think our bikes were designed to run on wider ones

2 wheels...is not like 4, where as a car you gain stability...if you go wide, meant for drag....straight away. If you want reflex, flicking the bike from corner to corner...go stock or best 1 size up drop 10 on the profile. I would not change tire size.
