Default What oil to use?

Well, I just started riding her on Thursday (2005 600RR), and she is gonna be ready for that first service this week. By the way, what a bike... I am in love [sm=love.gif] What oil do you all use? I have always used Mobil 1 in every other vehicle that I have every owned, and I like it, but I wanted some folks opinions. Do you use the Honda oil, Mobil 1, or something else? Wanted to make sure that synthetic was ok (doesn't the engine oil also bath the clutch? will this be ok, or will it cause clutch heat issues?) I have worked on cars for ever (managed a Porsche service department for a long time), but I am not real familiar with motorcycle mechanics.

Thanks for you input.

Hey.
Nice bike.
Here's a very good link.
Oil

x

...and it's been said that running non-synthetic oils for the break-in period is helpfule to aid in the friction processes needed to seat rings and such, but most important is not to beat on the little four until it's had that break-in period. Check your manual on that practice.

I was talking to one of the Techs at the Honda dealer and asked him this question. He recommended 4,000 miles before changing to synthetic

use gn4 for your first service, 4.000 mile service switch to either gps or r4 by castrol. thats what I use and it seems to make my motor a little louder, but it runs alot smoother and stronger.

gn4 is basic honda 4stroke... keep wit it

i use silkolene oil(their racing formula) it runs smooth, its not synthetic its an ester based oil. this is the same oil the use in ferrari and lambos. it coats all parts and you dont even feel your bike shift into gear. i seen a guy run this oil in his bike for 45000 mile (including the normal changes) and his pistons, rings and all inside part look great like they only had 10000 miles on them. but its whatever oil you like.

Check the owner's manual, usually a good start, or search the forum. It depends from machine to machine.

i heard from a local dealer to take the bike into a certified honda dealer on the first service that they check valve clearance, and do some other things and also it will void your warrenty if you don't take it in within the first year??? is that not true because i'm due for a first service... actually i'm 100miles over... lol, get back at me
