I have vortex. You can get decent sliders for $40.

vortex work great, I've had two crashes one long slide and one hard hit on the ground and they worked great both times, just swap out the pucks after a crash and your good to go

Oggy *****!

No fairing cutting at all required.
The actual sliders come out of the standard gaps in the side fairings.
They are attached to a steel frame system that bolts onto the sides of the engine block and has a strong reinforcement bar that connects the two sliders to the side frame work directly. Kind of like a U shape bracket.
I got them on my 05 600rr. Installation was quick and painless and the actual kit was very well finished.

I second the yoyodyne sliders. They have replaceable "mushrooms", plus you can get attachments that act as anchor points for tying down the bike.
