Default Washing

Just got my new '07 CBR600RR last week. Was wondering how/what people use to was their bike. Also, do I need to be careful getting water on any parts or area of the bike. Wheel cleaning etc.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Mike

you have a street bikes; it was designed to hang in the rain.
dont worry about getting water on the bike. just try not to use anything abrasive when you wipe.
dry and lube the chain after.

Thanks. How and what lubricant do I use for the chain. I'm fairly hands-on. Don't mind getting dirty.

Simplegreen and water works very well, as does non-chlorinated brake cleaner. I've used both with very good results, although simplegreen method tends to get really, really messy. but at least it's earth friendly. for lubrication, anything designed for motorcycle chains will do JUST fine. Honda makes some good stuff, maxima too. god there's tens of them. others use gear oil on a rag and do fine as well.

This sounds nice. I would like to use something that quick. I will look for it while I'm finding the chain lubricant.

That wax in can that you just spray and wipe with the micro-fiber cloths is what I use to keep it shine'n unless I get caught in the rain on a long ride....in that case, wash it like a car and dry it with a shammie. Bel-Ray makes a "SuperCleanChain Lube" that is outstanding and it last a long time also.

I mostly get dust on my bike. I don't like riding in the rain. And living in California, we seldom have wet days. Also, I garage it both at home and work, (It really doesn't get dirty). So, I will probably use the spray clean and wax method. Great advice on the Bel-Ray chain lube. I will look for that too.

I treat it like a car. Meguirs Car Wash soap and wax as well. Wax is applied twice a season. Dry with shammy cloth, apply wax with applicator pads and wipe off with terry cloth.
