Default Upgrades!?

Hey guys/girls,

I'm looking to upgrade my '07 CBR600rr very soon! .. Here is what I'm trying to accomplish

1) More Torque around 1 - 7k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
2) Fast pull from 110 - 150mph
3) Better Exhaust Sound

So I've been looking around and I hear ideas of front spockets, rear spockets, and exhaust. I realllly like those ideas. ...But I don't understand what effect a Front Spocket will do to the bike or a Rear Sprocket?

What Exhaust would you recommend for sound and performance? Thanks!!!

P.S. ...not going with the full exhaust system .. just the slip on... want to avoid the commander.

Sprockets change the ratio at which the transmission output shaft spins the rear tire. a higher ratio means more acceleration, but less top speed. A lower ratio gives you more top speed, at the expense of acceleration. it's that simple. so if you want 1 and 2 (with the top speed of 2 being the very upper limit before the bike will hit it's mechanical top speed) a gearing reduction (higher ratio) is what you want. most people do a combination of a -1 tooth count on the front sprocket, and a +3 tooth count on the back sprocket. this will make your bike behave much differently when you give it throttle, so be careful.

Since sound is purely aesthetic, and the only solid figure for power is a dynamometer comparison of stock to modified there is, tests on many, many, MANY CBR600RRs have shown that the ONLY way to get the maximum increased power output percentage from an exhaust system upgrade is to outfit the bike with an Arata Full Exhaust system and a professionally and thoroughly tuned Power Commander.

Even if you're only looking to change the sounds, a Slip-on exhaust replacement will require a Power Commander to correct the Air/Fuel imbalance created by installing a higher flow / less back pressure canister. You have to understand, the bike comes from Honda pretty leaned out to meet EPA regulations. if you want the most out of your bike in any form, a power Commander (or other fuel management device) is absolutely required.

If I do end up doing a -1 +2 ... what do you think my "indicated" top speed would run around?

Indicated? Well if you don't re-calibrate, it's gonna be around 167 MPH at the rev limiter but it's really going to be in the neighborhood of 150 MPH and that's assuming the speedometer is dead on from Honda, and i can tell you with a certain degree of certainty it's not.

You'll need the Universal Kit.

Thanks guys... I'll let you know how everything works out. I've decided to go with +2 in the rear for now. Then maybe step down -1 in front after a little while.

Sweet, I went -1 +2 last weekend with 520, and I'm liking it lol. Now I could use a speedohealer.
