Question Track tire question for friend. (4 year old rubber)

So my buddy bought a 04 600rr for the track.

It has Michelin Power Ones - great tires. But the manufactured date is early 08.

There is still stubble in the center tire. No visual wear / cracks.

However the tires are 4 years old.

Should he get new rubber? or think these are ok for a couple track days?

sorry nate...

i wouldn't use those old tires on the track. old rubber gets hard and slippery, and tracks push tires to their extreme. some tracks wont let you on with tires date codes that old.

This is more or less what I figured

Cheap insurance for peace of mind.

Anyone else have some input?

On the contrary, I wouldnt be too concerned about it if they were kept in a dry cool place. Although, fro m my experiance on the track, if you have concerns about your tires, your better off getting a different set. Much of riding is psychologically related, and if you are uneasy, and question there ability, you may exit slower, brake slower ect, or even drive off course because you believe they wont be able to stick. I would get a new set, but you can send them my way, ill be fine.

If they were stored correctly and he waits to push it until they're nice and hot each session they'll be fine for track days.

I'll let him know, but pretty sure he's already ordered new ones.

Anyways - thanks everyone. He's decided to sell his current tires and buy a new set of Power Pures.
