Just found this post and wanted to add this question and thought.......
Why do they require you to tape your lights ? Cant only be so they cant be a distraction when lit, cause then we would just disconnect them.
My last track day was with Ti2TT ( Take it 2 the track ) They did not require me to tape any of my plastic lights, just disconnect them. They told me i only had to tape the glass head light (if i had one)
and....... on my VFR (which has plastic headlamp lenses) i use a clear protectant film that protects the expensive lens from rock chips and road debris. This film also keeps mefrom having to tape my lens with DUCK, DUCT, or PAINTERS tape.
