Time For A Rebuild

Well 50,000 on the 03 CBR600 and we have smoke. Started out the other evening - the bike started running really rough. Took off for the garage running on 3 cylinders. Had a hard time keeping it running for the 10 miles home but running on 4 cylinders and not to bad when I got home.
The next morning started the bike up and it ran pretty good. Unfortunately as it came up to temperature it started smoking (white/light blue) out the exhaust - obvious smell of burning oil. Rev it up a few times and the smoke got worse. Shut her down. The next step will be a compression test - wet and dry and possibly a leak down test. Because this started all of a sudden I am assuming that I have a bad valve seal. I am a little confused by the fact that it was running on 3 cylinders when the problem started and not smoking at all. A quick check when I got it home indicates that it was the number one cylinder that was acting up...
Wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with their 03/04 CBR600 when the mileage was getting up there.
If I end up taking the motor out and tearing it down I'm thinking of taking it to 636. Anyone done this - any advice in this area?
PS - I have a second bike (R6) so I'm not in a rush...

I've not seen any 600RR's with miles that high, you may find it tough getting any help on the subject as you seem to be for lack of better words.. "the test dummy."
Let us know what the problem turns out to be when you pull the engine. I'm sure a lot of people are wondering the fate of their bikes.
