Default TAIL FAIRING TIPS

does anyone have any good tips for re moving and re-instaling the rear tail section of an 03-04 model? a whole back my bike was vandalized causing a LARG 5 inch crack down the right side of my tail fairing that has sence been repaired. a few days ago me and a friend were taking it off again and it snaped again (right along the fiberglass rosin repair) (no more damage done thatn before). sence we repaired it again and used a true fiberglass pach not jst rosin. it is curently primered and ready for paint and new decals.

just wondering if anyone has anny tips to putting it back on with as little bending force as possible. i know it helps a little to take the 2 brackets off at the rear seat latch.

Due to the force involved in getting it off (having to spread it so far), it's probably going to crack every time you remove and put it back on...my tip would be to stop being a cheapskate and get a new/used one.

nice... i apriciate the constructive criticism. does anyone think heating the plastic under a heat lamp would help?

from what i understand when you patch things properly (using fiberglass cloth along with the rosin) the patch is stronger than the plastic its self.

true but goin to be more stiff which is going to make it harder to take it off, if u arn't planning on taking it off anymore, leave it, if u plan on working on it more, either say **** it, or replace it

Well the paint job is done and the patch has dried so i will post up some pics later on. there was a huge crack on the right side i can't beleive how good the repair came out. the fairing went back on ok. i took a couple of the rear seat braackets off to give me a little more clearance on the back. I dont see a need to ever take the fairing back off sence i already have the power commander back there. but it went on fine and didn't crack again, now i just need to get some new decals for the back.
