Default sv650 to 600rr

hey guys,

i purchased a 05 600rr today. However, i don't pick up the bike until saturday. Still in crate and I don't have time to pick it up after work. Anyways, I just want to get some tips from you experienced riders. I currently have a SV 650 (vtwin), which I still have and keeping. The power is very linear, no surprised in any of the rpm ranges. Now, I've never ridden a I-4 600. Where are the burst of power in the RPM range? I would hate to ride initially without knowing. My breaks on the sv are stock. Is the rr much more sensative? Any input is appreciated. thanks

Congrats man! The power kicks in around 8k. It takes off like there its Turbo charged or something.

Yep, he said it. Thats the big difference. The inline 4 has to get the rpms screaming before you'll have the power kick in unlike the twin that has a lot of low end grunt. It wont break your neck from the low revs. Compared to the twin you'll think you got ripped off in the lower range, but once you hit the top end you'll know where the power is.

thanks guys.. that's what i needed to know. I'm going to stay below 8k until i get a good feel on the bike. I guess I'm suppose to anyways for the breakin. How about the suspension? Is it pretty good? My sv has spring ratings of .95. What is the rr's? I know I'm going to love this bike, and I have no regrets of getting it. But I really should have looked into all this before hand; again no regrets, just doing things backwards.

A friend of mine has the 650 and I gave it a try. It is definitly different. The RR really kicks you in the butt when you get on it. Also with the riding angle it was much different also. I will say the SV was more comfortable though.

the RR is a torture rack compared to SV650. the SV is good bike to learn the riding style and everything, but its very different. The RR kinda feels weaksauce till you hit 7k, then you get past 9k and you will be holding on tight to stay on the bike. Mainly, your *** and wrists will take a lot of getting used to the RR. also, the rear end with longer swingarm feels really different, like you are way over the front of the bike, and the *** end of my bike likes to slide more than any other bike i have ridden, but it recovers nicely and has the best high speed stability of any 600 i have ridden, even vs the r6 and 636.

Great description.. that's exactly what I'm experiencing. How long did you have your SV? Do u still have it?

I didn't own an SV, but many friends did. Almost everyone out here learns on an SV650, since 500 ninjas and stuff suck. I know one person selling an sv650 in blue right now, and my dr friend chick just bought a brand new one. Its good bang for the buck naked bike, and easy to ride. Great bike to not care as much about, but still be very nice riding. moderate vtwin going to a full race inline is two totally different things. Main thing is just pa attention when you accelerate, and get used to the speed and braking distances, they feel way different.

+1 to that all day long. My friend at work has a new 650 and I have traded bikes with him some days to check it out. My bike is sprocketed -1/+2 which gives it an awesome lower end compared to stock...even with that modification the SV still takes it off the line. However, once I hit end of 2nd/start of 3rd gear, it's all over in a head-to-head race. The SVs are alot more comfortable, and yes the RRs will be like a torture rack to you at first, but once you get used to it you probably won't trade it back. I like the fact that because of the sprockets I get a better takeoff but don't lose too much from the top that makes the bike so much fun after about 7-8k rpms.

Just keep those same rpms low for the break in, and after that hang on for dear life once you hit the powerband.
