sv650 to 600rr
hey guys,
i purchased a 05 600rr today. However, i don't pick up the bike until saturday. Still in crate and I don't have time to pick it up after work. Anyways, I just want to get some tips from you experienced riders. I currently have a SV 650 (vtwin), which I still have and keeping. The power is very linear, no surprised in any of the rpm ranges. Now, I've never ridden a I-4 600. Where are the burst of power in the RPM range? I would hate to ride initially without knowing. My breaks on the sv are stock. Is the rr much more sensative? Any input is appreciated. thanks

Yep, he said it. Thats the big difference. The inline 4 has to get the rpms screaming before you'll have the power kick in unlike the twin that has a lot of low end grunt. It wont break your neck from the low revs. Compared to the twin you'll think you got ripped off in the lower range, but once you hit the top end you'll know where the power is.

thanks guys.. that's what i needed to know. I'm going to stay below 8k until i get a good feel on the bike. I guess I'm suppose to anyways for the breakin. How about the suspension? Is it pretty good? My sv has spring ratings of .95. What is the rr's? I know I'm going to love this bike, and I have no regrets of getting it. But I really should have looked into all this before hand; again no regrets, just doing things backwards.

the RR is a torture rack compared to SV650. the SV is good bike to learn the riding style and everything, but its very different. The RR kinda feels weaksauce till you hit 7k, then you get past 9k and you will be holding on tight to stay on the bike. Mainly, your *** and wrists will take a lot of getting used to the RR. also, the rear end with longer swingarm feels really different, like you are way over the front of the bike, and the *** end of my bike likes to slide more than any other bike i have ridden, but it recovers nicely and has the best high speed stability of any 600 i have ridden, even vs the r6 and 636.

I didn't own an SV, but many friends did. Almost everyone out here learns on an SV650, since 500 ninjas and stuff suck. I know one person selling an sv650 in blue right now, and my dr friend chick just bought a brand new one. Its good bang for the buck naked bike, and easy to ride. Great bike to not care as much about, but still be very nice riding. moderate vtwin going to a full race inline is two totally different things. Main thing is just pa attention when you accelerate, and get used to the speed and braking distances, they feel way different.

Just keep those same rpms low for the break in, and after that hang on for dear life once you hit the powerband.
