I'm no lawyer but I'm sure you could sue the person who is responsible for the damages (ie: thief). I can't imagine you'd lose if he was convicted of the crime. Would probably be handled in small claims court.

Do you think it'd be more of a hassle than it's worth, instead of just having insurance pay for it?

The judge will order restitution at sentancing, and the bum will have till his complete sentance is up to make good on it, so if he dose 6 months and then gets 4 years on probation.parole thats the amount of time your looking at for the bum to pay up. Im going threw the same crap, My sons in jail for jacking my katana, and my durango. Oh, bye the way, crazy cool airforce, dover, N.D, kuwait.

My insurace is sending me a check tave have it fixed. Who knows if I'll be able to ride it before the season is over. I'm not gonna try taking the guy to court, but if given the opportunity, I will press charges..... that's if the police ever return my calls.

+1

I reckon a guy who steals motorcycles can barely make rent. let the insurance handle it and be on your way to a sweet new bike

Late to the party but so glad you got it back. Can you start keeping it inside your apartment or something like that? I know some people who do that rather than leave it in a parking lot overnight.
