Default Sprockets???

I was readin thourgh the forums earlier and saw someone said one of the most noticable performance mods would be sprockets. Being the noob i am i would like some more info. Such as what kind of sprockets should i start looking in to. Also a ballpark figure of how much it will set me back as well as how much trouble it is to change them yourself.

I'll save ya some trouble lol...before you get flamed for not usin the "search" feature on the site.

Most people go for a slightly smaller sprocket up front, a slightly larger sprocket in back, or both. This approach is going to cut some speed off your top end, but in turn rewards you with much stronger pull down low. The RR is geared very tall (track friendly) stock, which is why many people do this. Personally, i went one tooth smaller in the front and 2 teeth larger in the rear. Some choose to only do the front, so they can change it quickly for highway riding (smaller sprocket in front [or larger in rear] = higher RPM at the same speed and slightly worse gas mileage) I personally love the results and won't go back. But, to each his own. My advice would be that if you're not sure then just get a front sprocket with a one tooth difference (not that expensive) and see if you like it. Then go from there.

Changin the front is a breeze. Only three bolts i think lol. The back isn't hard either, it's just takin the rear tire off and unboltin the sprocket.

i did the -1/+2 sprocket change and it was too much. so i went back to the stock rear and left on the -1 up front and it is a lot better. i will leave it that way and you can use your stock chain if you get a 525 pitch sprocket. and don't forget to get a speedo healer because yoursedo will be off when you do a sprocket change. long story short just go to a 15tooth up front at first. and see how you like that if after that you decide you want more torque then go up 2 in the rear. but for me -1 up front is plenty it will pull it up in first gear with just the throttle and i can clutch it up in second. and my top speed is now around 156-157 if you go -1/+2 your top speed will be at about 149. something to think about.

vortex, precesion sprockets, renthal
approx $50 for the front $70 for the rear
chain conversion to 520 aprox $80
if you want noticeable amount of difference in the low end go up in the rear or down in the front. -1 in the front is = to +3 in the rear. i am stock in the front and +7 in the rear. top speed is about 140 now i imagine but its a parking lot bike so i dont for sure. if your going to change sprockets you might as well go to a 520 chain. make sure you get sprockets for a 520 chain if you plan to do so. your stock gearing should be 16 in front 43 in rear. at least thats what my 06' was. good luck.

Also, unless you're planning on racing your bike, i would highly advise against a 520 chain. I didn't listen to anyone that tried to tell me not to go to a 520, and i wish i had. The little bit of weight you lose doesn't make up for the fact that the 520 chain needs tightened constantly! I'm actually getting ready to go back to a 525 or even 530 if i can find one.
