Default Soon to be new rider. gsx-r or cbr???

Hey guys i have just started to get really serious about weither or not im going to get a bike. I have decided to go through with it and got my permit as well as signed up for a safety course. I will be selling my mustang and buying a used bike. I'm only 18 and going away to school next year so im trying to spend around $4500-5500 on a bike in order to save up some money. Now my problem is which bike. I have basically ruled out an r6 and will most likely be looking for a suzuki gsx-r 600 or a cbr 600rr (possibly f4i). I am leaning towards a gsx-r because i like the body style better and i know that they are about identical in performance. So i am looking for some suggestions or some pros and cons that you guys have with your bike. By the way- the years im going to look at are somehwere between 2000- 2004. Thanks for you time guys!

Chris

so if think performance is about the same (even though, cbr is more forgiving and better starter bike)...and like the looks of GSXR better....why wouldn't you get the GSXR???

I sold my '05 mustang to buy my 600RR last year...great choice bro!!!

One of the biggest reasons is that i have found two local bikes that are both 03' cbr's, one is a rr and one is f4i. I like the Cbr's and havent been able to find any close gsx-rs. So i figured i could try and find more information on the hondas before i make a final decision. To my knlowledge the same year gsx-r is the same maybe alittle faster then even the rr. Also through research on this board alone recently i have found that the only real performance differences between the rr and f4i are that the rr's are more areodynamic, better suspension and bigger fuel injectors (good for a couple horsepower differnce). So in my book its close between the two if i decide not to go with the gsx-r.

Man, it's pretty disappointing to see the members of a CBR forum recommend a damn Suzuki.

Nothing beats the fit and finish of a Honda. Nothing. Go with the CBR.

both the gsxr and the cbr are so close in performance (like you said) that all it comes down to is personal preference on looks and color. there is absolutely nothing wrong with either bike. i would advise getting one with fuel-injection, but that's about it. it'll probably come down to availability to finding a used bike in the right condition for the right price. you may want to take a look around in the classified section on here and see what you can find. good luck with the search.
