Default Painting Fairings

So I plan on getting the silver mid fairing painted Satin black or possibly flat black as of now and the bottom ones red. Just curious if anyone has had their fairings done what a reasonable price range is for it. I'm hoping it will be from $100-$150, but I could be wrong. I already concidered the rattle can option, but decided I want this to look nice and last long.

Also, I have been throwing the idea of getting some parts powder coated, such as the rear sets. Any advice or prices from work done on your own bikes would be appreciated!

+1 On having tripage do your powdercoating...unless you have a local shop. Painting for around 150 sounds about right. You can also sell you fairings and buy the OEM ones from your dealership. You'll have factory paint and no surprises. I went that route and sold my 07 fairings within days of putting them up for sale. Are you going to just powdercoat the rearsets??? Or are you going to do more? I have some powdercoated OEM brake and clutch levers I will sell you cheap. PM me if interested. I got rid of all the silver on my bike...including the subframe...not sure what Honda is thinking sometimes on astetics.

My paint for the lower fairing is arriving tomorrow, and I am very excited. I ordered Honda Italian Red R157 from here http://www.colorrite.com/product/hon...n-red-1093.cfm.I am not afraid to paint it myself, but I will tell you that with two cans of spray paint, 2 cans of primer, and 2 cans of clear coat, it came to be like $145. That is the cost of custom paint though, plus I get a T-shirt, so that fixes everything. I figured that it would cost less than having someone paint it, plus I don't like others touching my bike. I also went to the dealer and ordered the decals so it would not look naked. I will post pics when I am done.

you could go to an autobody shop and pull a painter aside and ask if you could have his number for a side job. call him up off site and ask him how much he'd charge for what you want done (or if nobody's around you could ask him on the spot). you'd basically be paying him for labor and he'd probably do itpretty cheap with excellent results...just a thought

I had both my mid fairings painted gloss black for $100 even. (and it turned out glossier than the stock black paint on the bike ) You could always try to rattle can it, and if it doesn't turn out, take it to a pro paint shop and have them do it. If you want a good satin black, at Autozone or Checkers, pick up "Trim Paint". It's in a green can. It's stain black and goes on evenly and is pretty tough. Its used for trim and bumper applications. I used it when I painted my Rizoma's (yep, previously unheard, but now you guys know, my Rizoma's are freaking black now (for a reason), I'll post up on that later on in the week). That paint works wonders, dries evenly and without all the streaks.

As far as powdercoating goes........PM me. I have a powdercoating machine and can have your parts powdered satin-black. I have powdered my rear sets, a two of my buddies' bikes rear sets. As well as a few other parts like levers and stuff. As long as the parts are small-ish, I can do it. If you need to get the heatshield black, I would spray that with the 1500-degree Ceramic Paint they sell in the rattle-cans. Worked BRILLIANTLY for me. (no chips, no scratches.....that stuff is bullet-proof) And I used "bed-liner-in-a-can" stuff to spray my subframe with (and it's held up perfectly too! No scratches or chipping. Perfect).

Wow a lot of good info here. I appreciate all the help and a few of you will be getting some PMs! I did check a place today that does classic car restos and custom painting. I talked to the guy, showed him what I wanted and really liked where it was going.....until he told me how much. Just for the mid fairing a glossy black he wanted $200 for each, and $150 for the small silver plastics on the tail. Rattle can is starting to look a lot more attractive to me now after hearing the price! haha

Red- I plan on doing the rearsets and passenger pegs, even though they are rarely on. I'm interested in the levers as well. I sent you a PM but I dont' think it sent. If it didn't, please contact me via emial (jus17@pitt.edu) or PM.

Blue Fox-I tried PMing you as well about the powdercoating and a few other topics but dont' believe it worked. If not please get a hold of me the same way I asked Red haha

I finished painting my lower fairings tonight, so I am now waiting for them to dry. The next stage will be to polish them in about 3 weeks. Maybe I will post some pics this weekend. I am also anxious to see how close the color is to stock.

Another thing that suprised me is that on the colorrite website, the color code for 08 Italian Red is different than the color code for the 07. The 08 also requires a base, and the 07 does not. Have any of you guys that have purchased 08 lowers noticed a slight color difference over the 07 stock color?
