Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could have swore the cluster retained the milage.

You can always call your local dealership and ask them

Its your cluster. If you bike had 1000 miles on it and the cluster has 5000 miles on it, your bike will read 5000. Or, if you bike has 1000 miles on it, and you buy a new one from the dealership, your bike will read 0 miles on it. However, in hat case, the dealership can change it to your correct mileage.

The cluster maintaining the mileage is correct. It must be adjusted at a dealership or there are a few places you can ship it to. An example (and if you're into changing out your LED's, but don't want to do it yourself), would be www.bluegauges.com (who can also correct mileage, AND pull mileage from old clusters to program into the "new" cluster)
