Default Noisy engine w/6400 miles???

I have an 03 CBR 600rr that I recently purchased. The bike seems to be in excelent condition except for some mysterious engine noise. At about 4k-6k rpm I can hear a rattle or ticking. I have read other post discussing the problems that Honda had with teh cam tensioner, but I am not convinced. To me, it sounds like a valve train noise, but what do I know--I am new to motorcycle mechanics but am a pretty savy automobile mechanic. That is why I say it shounds like vale train ticking. Any ideas--has anyone else experienced this???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you are a good mechanic, the ticking can go away. Valve trains are very critical, you know this from being a car mechanic. the 03s are renound for one exhaust valve to be out of spec. check the clearances. It is possible the keepers have been offset which pushes the shim up into the bucket which doesnt allow any clearance resulting in the ticking. Or their could be too much clearance. in which you go a size up in the shim. the bucket could also be sticking, although its unlikly unless someone did a valve job on it to push th keepers back in and damaged the walls of where the bucket sits. So check the clearances cus that is most likely where its comin from

as well as the chain tensioner may be a bit loose or you can change your oil viscosity to a slightly thinner oil so it can travel easier. But definitly start with the valves.

Thumbs up Start With the Cam Tensioner

Just got my bike out of the shop with the same problem... Thought it was the valves for over a year and just kept riding it. Since I bought an extended warranty I finally decided to take it in. My engine noise would come and go. The job cost $175 for labor and parts but the tech said there is a screw on the tensioner that you can adjust to solve the problem. Since mine was covered they just replaced it. If you want me to hear the noise text me and Ill call you back and Ill let you know if it sounds the same. Text me

mine is doing that same thing, so all you had done was your chain tightened with a new tensioner ? my bike has 30 k on it so i figured it was prob just time for valve adjustment
