Do you have to break in tires? I've heard they can be slippery do you have to take it easy or anything?

i don't know where you live, but street riding isn't track riding. take what track riders say with a grain of salt, they push their tires more on the first sector of the track on the first lap than we do in a week of riding. there is a "film" of protectrant applied at the factory, but it doesn't take long to rub off. what's important is that you rough up the tires using the whole tire. don't push unless you feel confident they wont skidder across the pavement.

Most tires do have a slick surface and a compound on the outside when new that can be pretty slick. Only way to get it off is heat, as in going out and riding and progressively leaning more. Most manufactures recommend 100 miles before full use, but if you can get them up to temp quick, you will be ok within 10 to 20 miles

One thing NOT do is leave the dealer with new tires and try to pin the throttle!

+1 new tires are slick, just don't get too agressive early.

yep...it happened to me...right after my buddy reminded me to take it easy...I forgot cuz it was late and my old lady was naggin so I got on the throttle a lil too much and out from under me she went..it was kinda funny because my bike was spinning around on the frame slidder in the middle of the street. The next day I tookher to the track and after 5 laps the tire was good to go.

Sandpaper don't work. Only heat does the trick. Course, if you have some tire warmers, bake em for 20 minutes and you are good to go!

Its nothing to be afraid of. Just be slow and be ready at turns for it slide out. When riding at slow speeds rock the bike back and forth in ur lane to wear off the film. Do this for at least 40+ miles before stepping it up in speed. This seemed to work for me.
