I'm 5'11" and I sometimes have problems backing up my bike out of the garage onto my gravel driveway. The ground isn't smooth and I know if I were 5'3" I would have dumped it by now. I don't think shaving the seat is going to help much since there really isn't much seat to begin with. I love my RR, but if I were in your shoes, I would try an older SV, a new Kawi 650R or even a new Gixxer 600. GSXRs have been placed on a diet and I think they are a lot thinner now days. Point is, get something that fits you; mostly for your safety.

 

Are you sitting on the bike and paddling backwards? If so, not only does that look silly, but you'll eventually drop it doing that...just get off the bike and push it backwards...it's easy, but some people aren't comfortable getting off and pushing motorcycles for some reason [&:]
