Just Moved To Cali...:( NEED HELP
hello everyone
I just moved to california and went to get my bike registered. i Found out if i didnt have the emissions sticker I cant register it in the state of California. It pretty much sucks. The lady at the DMV said if your bike has more then 7500 miles, you'll be exempt from the emission sticker regulation. It seems im stil S.O.L. because I only have 5900. I know this is a weird topic and everyone will tell me its illegal or its impossible or even that I am a bull****ter, but is there anyway that i can up the miles from 5900 to 7500 so i can go get it registered. I'd ride it till I got to 7500 miles, but riding with no registration or insurance really blows and im not about to take that risk. im not trying to scam anyone, its my bike and i plan on keeping it. if someone could even explain to me how a bikes mileage increases or where the mechanism/ sensor is that would be greatly appreciated. once again i know this is an iffy topic, and illegal for the most part but im just trying to get my bike registered. thank you all in advance.
cheers

I know nothing about the speedo but if i were in your situation...i'll schedule a few track days until mileage hit 7500, you only need 1600miles. Maybe run the bike on a track stand a few miles every other day or find a big parking lot to ride. Sounds silly but that's how they built the great wall in China.

best bet is to leave it registered out of state until 7500mi. the policy was designed to keep people from buying cars out of state to avoid cali sales tax. greedy bstards! on a car 7500 is easy to get, but they dont take into account that most bikes are weekend riders and can take years to get 7500. did they check your mileage in person? if not, just put 8256mi on the paper. or go to a remote dmv service, if they even bother to look, they dont really care too much, switch it to km. that will save you 2 hours at the dmv, well worth the extra $25.
where in cali? us locals will show you where all the good roads are at. you too ace...look us up when you get here.

I think kmh might be my best bet, I'll try it tmrw at the dmv. What's a remote DMV service? And where can I find those? I live in Santa barbara in the hidden valley area. 15 minutes from sbcc, and 25 min from ucsb, some riding buddies would be greatly appreciated since I'm still sort of a novice.

i've been/am where ur at, I was able to get insurance with no problem at all, even with out the bike regesterd in my name yet,( which the insurance co knows about) and i am @ 4300 miles now and working my way towards 7500 miles. I have been pulled over and all the cops know that you can not regestir your bike til 7500, there not that worried about it, if any thing u will get a registration fix it ticket, which is correctable by registering ur bike, and by the time the court date gets to u, u can easily be over 7500, for gawds sake u live in california , ride in that sunshine, i have put 3000 miles on my bike in 2.5 months. i see the 7500 comming up before i know it. ul be fine , just make sure u have insurance and ur M1, and explain ur situation to the cop if u get pulled over. IMO im doing nothing wrong.... and the cop will see that as well, just tell him the truth.
The truth shall set you free! LOL
