Default Insurance auctions a good place for a first bike?

I'm just getting my first bike, i've rode alot in the past and have had my license for a couple years but i've never had my own bike (just rode my dads)
I'm just turning 20 and i would love to get an 06 cbr 600rr i know it's alot of bike for a young kid but i know i can handle it. However I am in school and work part time so i really don't have $5-7 grand to buy one used. The cheapest way i figure is going to be to acquire one through an insurance auction. I know alot of them involve tons of work but i'm a very capable mechanic and so is my dad. Just curious if anyone else has done this? Also any advice on how i can get a 06 600 rr for less than the normal amount?

Default RE: Insurance auctions a good place for a first bike?

I think insurance companies total out bikes easy in some cases. I've heard of frame dents (just a dent, no bends) totalling a bike and stolen bikes (just ridden around til out of gas... never dumped) I believe are labeled salvage immediately. I could be wrong and if I am I'm sure someone will point it out. You should look into a good used bike in a different model. You seem really specific on what you want, but your price range means you should consider some others. RR's aren't really all that cheap. Esp newer years.
