How Long Till You Oil Change?
cbrjim, you have to decide on what kind of oil you want to use. its a personal choice. gn4 oil is made for these engines but any oil will work. synthetic is more for racing, when you are riding really high rpms and what not. sythetic blend is half and half and is pretty good for street use. i wouldnt use anything else for a street bike personally. repsol is really good but really expensive. motul is good, mobil, and whatever else you can find is ok. i ride motul

Ok well maybe im wrong and all can correct me if i am but as far as time frames. Yes synthetic oil will last longer then traditional oil but thats not the problem the problem is that even though the oil will make it that long the oil filter will be junk, i think some people forget about the filter. me personally i change it every 3000. And for oil as long as its changed at least every3 or so then you should be good. I have never noticed much difference in oil over the long term
cbrjim~i use k&n filters, they are way easier to get on and get off. when you go to change your own oil you will discover that it is rather difficult without aspecailized tool. k&n solved that prob with a nut on the top. honda oil filters are not really necessary imo...plus i like k&n
ya the honda filter was a pain to get off and i just got honda ng4oil becuse the dealer said 2000miles was to new to start using synthetic oil. And he told me using synthetic oil will cause clutch slippege eventually.
I am about due for another oil change, anyone know when/where/how I can get one of those Purolator "Pure One" filters and or what size fits the 2004 600RR? That seems like the best filter you can get if you guys read that article, it takes more of the small micron particles out of the engine and has greater surface area.
I solved the "hard to get off oil filter" buy going to sears and buying a $4 "plastic oil cap socket"...it's a plastic, oil filter shaped socket that fits on a standard wratchet and the filter comes off no problem with that...it fit the Honda filters perfectly...
