Hey guys im knew here!!!! with a question also!
even though in the wheelies r us topic it didnt seem to answer any questions.
i have been trying to get my front end up by doing second gear power wheelies, i ride to about 8500 rpm then close throttle to preload my forks and then i smoothly go hard on the throttle but i cant seem to get the front end to want to go up. and the problem im noticing is 8500 is like 55-65 mph and then by the time im trying to get it up my rpms are so high im going like 90+. should i start out at a lower rpmbefore goign smooth on the gas?
thanks!
btw im josh ! /wave

you should really clutch in second, 2nd is a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG -> gear. I rode a wheelie today showin guys at my work how to clutch for like 2 stop lights here in vegas in 2nd and brought it down cause of traffic.
Are you standing up? You should be able to stand up and preload in 2nd on a stock 6... I did anyways. give it a double bounce and gas on the last bounce
it works. like power bouncing on a tramp, a bounce, then a HARD one and whooop there you go.
ppl say clutching is bad... yeh rite. Clutchs are cheap, and easy to install. dont worry bout it, i only clutch my wheelies. And mine is still strong and barely BARELY slips.
Try it.

well, I gotta say...clutching IS an EASIER way to get a smaller cc bike up! No denying that! However, I ride a 600rr and I would have to say that if you're NEW to wheelie-ing, start in first and do the preload thing. it's a lot SHORTER of a wheelie than you can do in second, because it IS a long gear, however if you're new, it's better to get the feel there in first! If you're NOT a newbie, then go for the clutch in second. I can't bring myself to do it to mine cause it's an '05 and although it does have 2400+ miles on her already, I do NOT want to be replacing clutches ANY time soon!!! NO MATTER HOW CHEAP! I used to ride a 929rr and it had quite a few mods, but it would power up at 90+! without ANY strain! Larger cc bikes are just easier! Us mid cc-ers are just stuck fighting!!! Good luck and let me know how it goes!!!!!
well from what i was trying yesterday, the first gear power wheelie how high do my rpms get, i dont think im getting that bounce off th few kicks i kept getting into the 13k+ rpms and it didnt seem like it wanted to go up yetbut so run down of what i would do..
1. take off, get to about 8000 rpm, cruise there for a second or too
2. let go of throttle
3. go hard on gas smoothly( maybe i didint go on hard enough?) my rpms would get high and all it would do was accelerate really hard
then id give that a few trys by just going off the gas and back onto it

I finished practicing wheelies just about an hour ago All I was doing was power and slower speed clutch wheelies in 1st.
To do the power wheelies I pull on hard to 8000-9000 then let off fast and pull hard again smoothly. Using that technique I have not problems getting the front to rise up smooth and controlled. I am starting to be able to ride them for about 300 yards then I let off mainly because I don't like hearing my bike wind out at a constant 13000 RPM. I started to try clutch wheelies at slower speeds because of it. I think they are harder because of the slower "more unstable" speed. I also couldn't ride them as long but I could ride them with the front wheel higher. I have to get out of the habit of turning the bars like motor X riders to when they wheelie. I set one down with the bars slightly turned and although it righted itself right away I could see that technique developing into a bad tank slapper.
I must qualify that I am just beginning but after about 30 minutes of practice I was starting to get a lot better. One stupid thing I was doing was trying this by myself. It was spontaneous of me to get out and practice but that is no excuse. You should always have a buddy there incase you go down. Also try to get someone to practice with who knows how to stunt so they can talk you through it. Everyone I've met around here in Columbus are real cool, very approachable and helpful.
Just thought I'd share

hey man, DEFINATELY start taking someone along. At least you KNOW you should! Most don't even think or care about that much! As far as first gear power ups, I usually take mine up to around 7, let out of the throttle completley, then INSTANTANIOUSLY crack it back open, give a LITTLE tug, and up she comes!!!!! Now, from there, you just have to get use to the speed it comes up to keep it up. I can't get mine to come up at 8 unless I just basically SNAP it open. You need to just let out for a SPLIT second, just until it loads the springs, or bottoms out. THEN crack it back open immediately!!! Other than that, let me know again how your turn out is! I think you are going a LITTLE high before letting out and starting. Just CRUISE up to 7ish, then let out. It's going to depend on how much you weigh and such, but that should do it. let me know ride safe!!!!
Yeh 8g's is pretty high...
Cautious steps Ive learned the hard way and some of my friends.
1. NEVER STUNT, RIDE HARD, OR "ACT A FOOL" lol alone.
2. Learn your bike, and its reactions before trying to push YOUR limits.
3. Learn to clutch in 2nd if you try, first is a snappy gear and WILL loop if too hard of a clutch. Ive actually hit myself with my visor doing a standup baby clutch in first... DONT TRY IT LOL.
4. Always wear full gear! SHOULD BE TIED WITH #1.
5. Watch the roads and the wind. Bumps will twist you up, even little ones when on 1 wheel.
6. Keep your foot over the rear brake in case you go to far bak, thats the only thing that will save you from loopage.
Best and easiest ways to get them up and keep them.
1. Learn power ups till you tap out. (Dont do it alot, float a valve or somethin lol)
2. When you have powerups pretty good to where you can ride it out the full gear in 1st, try to preload HARD in second and get it up. (basic standup)
3. After you learn the standup in 2nd, ask around for a visual lesson of how to "clutch" the bike up. its easy, yet so complex most dont understand it even if its done 1,000,000,000 times in front of them.
4. After you learn to clutch in 2nd, you can have some fun, and learn your BALANCE point in first. Sad to say our balance points are like dirtbikes, STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN. If you ride a GSXR its alot different. Ours is UP AND DOWN bout 11:00pm (lol)
5. BE SAFE, DONT GET SCARED AND LOOP IT, AND BE SAFE.

You said you ride yours out in 1st for 300yards? THATS A LONG WAY. In second I can do that but not first lol, i got like 1 block in first cause its a slower gear and so snappy. But I can do 1st gear wheelies starting from a 2 mph or less roll and ride for quite a while.
1st gear wheelies are the sickest!!!.. Alot slower and harder to do than my 4th and 5th gear wheelies.
Keep it up bro.

Oh i got them today guys in first, they are day 1 wheelies, i ride up to 7000, then let off for a sec and snap the throttle and it will go up, havnt gone up to balence point yet i take it high but not the balence point high yet
as for clutch wheelies not sure how to do that yet, will work on my power wheelies for a while, the hard part was learning to get it up but now that i can get it up, im trying to get consistent on getitng them up higher or holding them longer
yea i got them down though today! felt really good to get it to go up high, landings are still a little stiff, no tank slappers thank god.

oh yea i was by myself cause i wanted to learn, but i have a two friends that do wheelies very well that i was getting coaching tips from. now im practicing them almost at every light whenever i have the chance to go 40 at around 7k rpm is when ill try them up! but i make sure im on roads i know dont have the bumps side streets or soemthign that will **** me up.
