Default gpr damper v1 on cbr600rr3

Hi guys ive got a slight problem. I fitted my gprv1 steering damper ysterday to fing out that the petrol tank mount was sitting too high (or damper to loe) which was pushing the dampers arm up into the bottom of the damper restricting the movement nly giving about quarter turn. and has begun to catch the bottom of the damper marking it. I dont reall know what to do.

heres what i did.

removed the stock yolk nut
backed out the two grub screws
placed the base plate on the triple clamp and tightened down to correct torque screwing back in gub nuts.
removed the tank nuts (2 of them and metal washer leaving rubber screw things which slightly came out of the tank. without this eaxtra hight would be sitting correctly.

tightened down the tank mount placed the damper on the plate and begun to tighten it down. as i did this it pushed up the arm into the bottom of the damper restricting movement.

any ideas, please help.
