getting hot!!!!!!!!!
hi all. just a quick question as not sure if this is right. i ride to london everyday through traffic and the bike is always running at about 106deg c the fan does cut it in and cools it down to 102 but then it goes straight back up. how bad is this for the bike and is there anything i can do???????? thanks for your help. mark
dang...sometimes i wished i payed more attention in chemistry class on the temperature convirsions...lol, but the first things i would check are your coolant levels, hoses, the basic stuff like that...i kno the fan on my bike kicks on at about 220 but again your in a city driving situation...so it all depends
It's normal for the bike to fluctuate the temperature, ESPECIALLY during stop-and-go traffic. As long as you aren't spiking above 235 F (113 C), there's no need for alarm.
the bike's cooling system was designed for moderate constant speeds. stop and go is going to really heat up the engine. 106C is where mine rests at the very hottest, but never goes above that. the coolant wont boil until it reaches temps in excess of 110. straight distilled water transfers heat much better than HP Coolant, but boils at 100C. if you switch to DW you'll need a lubricant additive called Redline WaterWetter. you should see lower temperatures with that setup but make double damn sure you do not go over 100C, because when water boils, it produces pressure and hot spots in the engine and head that can warp the metal and absolutely destroy the engine.
