Determining Entry Speed/ Gear
I'm having a challenging time determining what gear I should be in when taking an intersection turn (assume 90 degrees or close to it). Sometimes I find myself always trying to kick it down in 2nd gear from like 5th or 4th and all the weight gets lifted from the rear....Other times, I feel like I can approach that same turn in 3rd gear.
My question I believe is: How is the best way to determine what my entry speed/ gear should be. I dont want to be approaching the entry to slow, but at the same time, I dont want to approach it too fast where I have to adjust my weight off the bike. Any suggestions?

Come to the turn and slow down and downshift as you trim speed for the turn. You don't want to be braking and then suddenly downshifting through 3-4 gears at a time. You want to progressively go from gear to gear as you're slowing.
the fun way is to go into the corner carrying a lot of speed and dropping the gears at the last minute butthe way i try to do it that is the most comfortable is to pick the gear that you know that as soon as you are half way thru the corner you can easily accelerate out, but if you are using the same corners every day youll get used to them and start taking the corners a lot faster, the run that I do every day has 3 tight turns on it on a fairly open road and I have learnt to take them as fast as I think I can, whereas on my saturday spin, ill usually go to roads im not to sure of and ill be a lot slower going in even though the corners are not as sharp
I usually take the 90 degree turns in an intersection in 2nd gear. I dont like to go too fast thru those, its just not the place... with the other idiots there that could get in your way. We could be talking about completely different types of intersections, but that's one place where I dont want to take chances by going too fast or not having time to react. But either way, 2nd or 3rd gear sounds fine, as long as you feel like you can take it comfortably.
