Default To cut, or not to cut...

That is the question. Ok so I put on my TwoBrothers pipe, but when I was playing with the heat shield I decided to keep it on. One reason was because I wanted my girls butt to not fry. The second reason was because I wanted to make sure the plastics did not get damaged. The third reason was because when my buddies and I went to vegas, a friend rode his R1 and it does not have any heat shield. He had blisters on his leg when he got to vegas. So now I pose the question to the group. Cut, remove or keep the heat shield?

sounds like you alrady know what you think you should do. I think it looks pretty clean as it is anyway.

I agree cjbettis, it doesn't look bad with the heat shield so I'd stick with it.

Take the heat shield off and paint it gloss black -- use some high heat paint if you can find it.

wonder how it would look to cut the sides off...... so you can see the pipe! And then paint it black....

L8X... how long has yours been cut, and how long do you ride? I think chain had a great plan, paint it gloss black with exhaust manifold paint. It withstands temps in the 1200+ range depending on the brand.

I don't think I mind the heatshield too much. Of course I don't have an exhaust either, but, I don't think it would bother me. If you really wanted it off, I haven't heard anything bad about it really. It's the first time I've heard of people's legs blistering up.

I don't use the heat shield. I got the yoshimura RS-5 no problems with things melting or getting hot.
