Lightbulb Building a plug-in live data module for my 2006 CBR600RR

Hey everyone,

I wanted to start a small build/research thread for a project I’ve been working on for my 2006 CBR600RR.

I’ve been experimenting with the factory under-seat diagnostic connector and Honda K-line data to see what live information can be pulled from the bike without cutting or splicing into the harness. So far I’ve been able to read live ECU data like RPM, coolant temp, intake temp, TPS, MAP, battery voltage, and some status bits.

The goal is to make a small plug-in module that connects to the factory diagnostic plug and shows useful live bike data on a phone. I’m mainly building it around the 2005–2006 CBR600RR right now since that’s what I own and can test on.

I’m still learning these bikes, so I’d really appreciate feedback from other 05–06 owners, especially anyone familiar with the diagnostic connector, gear/speed signals, or common fitment issues under the seat.

A few things I’m trying to validate:
  • Whether the diagnostic connector behavior is consistent across 05–06 bikes
  • What live data people would actually care about seeing
  • How much clearance different bikes have around the under-seat plug
  • Whether a short extension harness would make installation easier
  • What would make this feel clean and reliable enough to trust on a bike
I’ll post photos/videos as I make progress. Not trying to spam or sell anything here, mostly looking to document the project and get feedback from people who know these bikes.
