Default Bike is stalling, plz help

Hello everyone, i own a 03 60rr with 5k miles and zero mods. i was riding along one day and all of a sudden the engine just dies and wouldn't crank back up. The F.I. light was on so i thought it might be a fuel relay or something. so i schedule it to have a code ran and find out what happened. week later go to load the bike up and take it to the shop and hit the starter and she fired right up and ran fine without any issues. So i take it to the shop and they scan for any codes and couldn't find any {codes}, none had been stored. So i ride it for another 100 miles or so, and the same thing happens again, just dies on me going down the road (again the F.I.light iluminated). later that day (7 hours or so) try to start it up, and she fires right up again, and runs fine. Bottom line is i dont have a clue what could be the problem and i'm not going to ride a bike for any distance at all if its just gonna stall out and leave me stranded. So i dont know what could be the problem if it wont store a code, and the shop dosn't know either. Any help, leads, or tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jim

A buddy of mine had a similar problem on a rc51 that I sold him and it turned out to be the kickstand switch...might want to try jumping that out for a while and see what happens. I think the F I light comes on whenever the bike dies along with the oil light...dosnt it?

Sounds interesting, but it will run for just a second if i give it 40% or so throttle and hold down the starter. And i dont know if maybe it has something to do with the bike being hot. Because it will fire right back up when it is cool (or atlease enough time has passed so that the bike has just cooled) Thanks for the reply and would love to hear any more ideas!

Maybe there could be a problem with your idle?

I also had the same problem with my F4i. My friend set the idle RPM a little low, and the next day, when I took it for a ride
it would stall all of a sudden, but mine didn't run for a 100 miles....more like 10 miles...

But, maybe there is a possibility there

So the shop just ran the codes? Is that what you paid them to do or did you pay them to diagnose the problem? Seems to me when you take your bike in to have it checked out you should get something for your money.

When i spoke to the shop they said they would run the codes and then depending on what code was thrown we would go from there in replacing part(s). When i go back and ask them what they found they said that it didn't store a code that could be read. So more or less i got stuck with a .5hour labor charge to tell me that they couldn't tell what in the world the problem was because they couldn't duplicate the error. I dont think it has anything to do with the throttle or idle being mal-adjusted because nothing on the bike has been touched or altered, ever (with the exception of i had the front shocks seals replaced 500+ miles ago). I'm getting very frustraded with the bike and I am considering selling it, and getting a different brand bike, because i havn't even put 1000 miles on the bike and this is the second major issue i've had with it. So any help at all would be excellent. thanks

hi Jim, I had a problem with my bike stalling. i later read, i think on this forum, that the idle should be at about 1,300 RPM adjusted it and have not had that happen since, so give it a try. When adjusting the idle rpm make sure that it's after the bike has warmed up, the reason being that when the bike is cool the electronics control the fuel mixture and make it richer.

good luck man, i have an 03 rr with about 4500miles and no performance mods, i love the thing!

+1 on the idle. I was riding right after i messed with the idle and it died on me. Just brought the RPM's up a little and no problems ever since.

No way sorry to rain on your parade but going down the road the idel has nothing to do with his bike stalling. I can see if he was comming to a stop or at a stop but hes going down the road. Me I would be looking at what I call it the cdi unit [electronic ingition] Sound like its getting over heated and shutting down. When it cools off it starts and runs normal again.Other then that when it dies does it sound like its running out of fuel or like you turn the kill switch off...If it sounds like the switch being turned off I would be looking at the electical parts of the bie for loose connections etc....Well not sure if you got it fixed yet but hope this helps ya

Milko, That sound more like the problem to me. Not a idle issue, b/c it has not be altered and that would only cause the biek to stall at lower RPM's, not just going down the road. When it cuts off its like you just turn it off, not like its a slow die( like its running outta fuel). The heat guage when its cut off it only in the 180-190 degree range so i dunno if it is overheating or not. I think heat (or atleast TIME enough for it to cool down) is one reason for the stall, because as i previously stated, after it stalls and will not restart, i will let the bike sit for a few hours and then it will crank right back up. Another thing is when it will not start up, it will run but you HAVE to give it 60-70% throttle and hold down the starter(and keep it pressed), but even then it will only run for 2 or 3 seconds (or until you let off the throttle or unpress the starter. thanks for all the advice so far and please keep it coming! -Jim
