Well I havent dropped her yet (knocking on wood now) but I did have a very close and scary call, two actually.

The first happened a couple days after I purchased my brand new 05 cbr600rr. I had never ridden a bike before and I was keeping it slow while I was in training. Well I had no idea that in order to shift down when your stopped you have to feather the clutch a bit. So finally I was in 5th gear and didnt realize it, the bike kept stalling over and over. To make matters worse I was at the top of a hill and the bike kept leaning towards the edge as cars were coming at me. Anyways somehow I got it in gear while it was in 5th and I made it outta there but it was more luck than anything.

A few months and a few thousand miles later Im riding like a pro, or so I thought. Man I feel like I was born on this bike. So I find myself riding in 20degree weather in upstate NY around Christmas time. The roads were plowed and dry for the most part and I was bundled up nicely. So im cruisin along going about 60 on a 4 lane road when I see an 18-wheeler slowing down at the intersection ahead of me. No big deal I thought, Ill just go into the left lane and through the intersection.

So i pull in the clutch and brake and down shift. Everything is clear in the intersection so I let off the clutch to go through when my heart stopped and my a$shole puckered up tighter than 2 coats of paint. Apparently there was some black ice in the middle of the intersection (not uncommon) and my rear wheel just happened to be right on the patch when I let off the clutch. I was going about 45 when the bike fishtailed violently. To make matters worse, when the tire finally got a bite on the road thee bike bucked me into the air. Some I managed to hang on, get it under control, and got the hell outta there, slowly...very slowly.

After my a$shole released its death grip on my boxers and I realized I was going to be ok I said a very sincere prayer of thanks to God that I was alive to come home to my family. That was my first real scare. Consequently I had to rethink my choices about riding, especially in bad conditions. I seriously considered giving up the bike, picturing my 18month old son growing up without his father.

Long story short I still ride, but I conciously try to make good decisions. I like to think im a better rider because of my scare. As they say "Live to ride, ride to live."

I was on a ride one time, and i took a wrong turning on a country road. I was going up a never ending hill, and decided i had to turn around and find my way. So i preceded to do my uphill u-turn,when obviously i lost balance and just toppled over at 1 kmh! Shocking! But at least it wasnt my Honda that i dropped,it was an Aprilia RS 125! So please people, learn from this........dont do u-turns up hills hahahaha

Since I am new to this forum I thought I would start with reviving an older post and mentioning my first act of stupidity. I just got my '03 cbr600rr on Saturday, got it tagged and all on Tuesday, went for a quick ride in the morning and everything was awesome.

I have been riding an FZR 600 for 2 years and this baby is kickass in comparison. Anyways, I grabbed my gear and wanted to go for another ride again later in the day, naturally. I live in a townhouse complex with a killer hill right in front of the townhouse, which also is on a slight lean to the right, but I keep the bike parked in an alley since it is flat there. I rolled out the bike and parked it on the hill running, like I had did the first time. I hopped on the bike and decided to get used to the clutch on hill stops since it felt a bit different than the FZR, well I let off the brakes and out of an act of stupidity, I didn't give it enough gas and it started rolling back along with following the natural lean of the pavement, toward the right side. Well I ended up dropping the bike.... first day of riding. In my two years of experience I have never done such a thing.

What made it worse was all of my neighbors were outside watching me.... luckily my leg was in-between the bike and the ground so only the mirror got busted, small scratches on the turn signal and small scratch on the tail and very minor scuffs on the clutch cover. Nothing major really. I also sacrificed my leg for the good of the bike...my leg did get a massive gash and some pretty serious swelling from from the weight of the bike since I rode it down and kept my leg in-between the bike and the pavement (could be a fracture but who can afford doctors these days?), but oh well, at least the bike is ok!!!

After I got it back up, I went on an hour-long ride, just trying to make myself feel like less of an idot.

Talk about feeling like a real jackass, making a noobie mistake with my new dream bike on the first day of riding in front of a bunch of my neighbors. At least they were nice enough to help me lift the bike off my leg. And who would have guessed an OEM mirror at the dealership costs $70!?!?!

ok first crash: i learned to ride in a large parking lot on a 2000 harley sportster, i was doing ok so i decided to take her out on the street, guess it was a bad idea because i still didn't feel very comfortable. so i was turning from a stop and was trying to get used to the throttle, too much throttle not enough clutch ended up losing balance and dropping bike and holding the throttle all the way down. lucky for me it was my brother's!! ( and had been dropped before)

second crash: about a year later i purchased a small buell 500cc i practiced more slowly and became much more comfortable with this bike, i was tooling around side streets about 30-35mph starting to learn how to lean around corners. of course i got too comfortable, took a corner too fast and paniced, about half way through the turn i grabbed the front brake my bike twisted threw me over the handle bars, i rolled hard on my hip, gashed my hand, and somehow landed on my feet standing up as if i did some kind of strange sideways somersalt) surprising little damageto the bike and to myself considering i wasn't wearing any riding gear at the time.

i spent another year and a half on the buell and this febuary i bought a 2006 600rr, and couldn't be happier this is the best bike ever, and to think that i considered getting a buell lightning!!!

Had my brand new CBR600rr a few weeks when i had some biker friends round for a drink & after we'd had quite a bit i decided to get the bike out of the garage to show them. I was excited, they were excited & as i pulled it out of the garage i lost my balance, it & i fell over. But worse was to come. As i attempted to pick it up, when i got it vertical it fell over on the opposite side- scraping down the wall as she went.

The damage? My street cred & about £900 in new plastics, indicators, bar ends, engine casings & levers. Frame sliders all round now & no showing it off when i'm drunk!

so i just read this thread for the first time yesterday and posted my idiot moments, but i was honestly surprised by how many people dropped thier bikes by not putting the kickstand down or doing it improperly. it just sounded stupid to me....

so today i was out riding around the hood, and i stopped at best buy to go buy king kong, and as i started to get off the bike i noticed a disturbance in the force ([sm=vader1.gif]) as the bike's wieght began to push against my left leg i imediately realized what was wrong I FORGOT TO PUT DOWN THE KICKSTAND DOWN! I strained with all my might and was able to save her. i'll never question the mistakes of others again.
