Are you going to be racing, stuntingor making the RR a track only bike? If not...don't bother.

I say yes, as do a lot of others. Do a search here, and other places as well. It's a great investment.

I honestly have not ever NEEDED one! Insurance for what...I'd say it's more of a Band Aid for lack of basic sport bike riding skills...loosen up on the bars, stay on the throttle and ride it out...that's all I've had to do. Many people are afraid of tank slappers, but if you use the right techniques, head shake can be dealt with before it becomes a slapper...this is coming from a rider of over 25 years with track experience and I haven't used a damper yet...In fact, I think applying a damper too soon can prevent you from learning how to properly ride a sport bike...chew on that!

A damper is generally a good thing to have. Anyone that has ridden hard knows what a tank slap is like. The average rider will never experience a tank slap, the bikes are never ridden that hard. Most of the tank slaps that I have had are when accelerating out of a turn and the front end is light and the bike hits a slight rise or bump in the road. That situation will give a tank slap every time. Steering dampers will cure this.

Tank slapper? Are you sure!? I'd say you're more likely to get some head shake, but an all out "slapper?" You might want to check and see if you know the difference between head shake and a tank slapper...If you're getting slappers everytime, you need a lot more than a steering damper...I recommend the RRK (Rider Replacement Kit)

I suggest that you first get your suspensionset up properly. Most likely the stock suspension will NOT be suitable for you (unless you weigh about 140lbs with gear) so you'll likely need an upgrade of suspension components first (springs, valves).

A properly set up suspension will do far more for the bike than a band-aid fix like a steering damper. It will help the bike overall in all situations as compared to the one or two that the damper will address. Often, people use a damper as a band-aid for lack of suspension quality/set up. Suspension should come first.

I'm not telling you how to spend your money but, for just a little more than a damper, you can get your forks redone and the bike will be much better overall.

Give a racer a choice of which should be done first, suspension or damper. All of them will go for suspension!!!
