600 mile service

RE: 600 mile service
Does it also say that not servicing it at the dealer at the next interval voids warranty on defects arising afterwards? how can you be sure that they will not hold this against you when you go to blame them on defects of workmanship after you have done the interval service yourself? I am sure that doing any service yourself does not void the warranty, nor does doing any community service, just as like washing your bike doesn't void the warranty, brushing your teeth doesn't void the warranty. Of course not, does adding modifications void the warranty? nope, but "skipping the dealers schedualed service" somehow strips you from your right to claim from them any further responsibility, so it's a +1 point for them. Could we have a lawer here?

RE: 600 mile service
Hey thanks for all the help. Since is the first service i might take it to the dealer but i am going to talk with a friend of mine that works there see if he can get me a deal.
Where is that thread Frerice??
Do it yourself. I actually posted a thread about this awhile back.
I did everything, checked the throttle, idle, clutch, changed the oil and oil filter and lubed the chain.
My stealership wanted to charge me $157 for the initial service. I just did the second oil change and it took me half the time as the first.
My 2 cents.

RE: 600 mile service
Ok I am going to do it myself because the dealer is charging 170, which i think is insane. What oil filter would you guy recomend? I was thinking of using the K&N. And how about oil, I am thinking of going with sinthetic but don't know which brand. What else is involved in the service, just the oil change??

RE: 600 mile service
I just use Honda oil filters and Repsol Oil, 10W-40. Although some people will say don't use synthetic oil prior to 3,000 miles on the bike. But I think the Repsol is semi-synthetic. Anyway, I have 3,200 miles on it now and no issues to-date. I did do my second oil and oil filter change early at 2,500 miles.
I have not had to re-adjust my clutch or throttle since either.
I do religiously oil my chain though, 'cause I commute work and run errands about 95% of time on my bike.

RE: 600 mile service
After the first few hundred miles the cables tend to stretch a little since they are new. Both were upper adjustments, nothing serious.
If you are not that familiar, I would recommend you have someone do it for you, whether a trusted friend or dealer. But it is pretty simple. I recommend you get yourself a service maunal or something similar. Without diagrams it can be a lengthly dicussion. I'm at work so I have to cut it short.

Why shouldn't I use synthetic?
i'd say for the first change why not just stick to petrolium, its not like it will hurt your engine (rather than switching early and something happening to your engine. better safe than sorry). plus it gives you a reason to ride more to do your next change to synth (if you want). just my 2 cents
