Hey forum! I picked up my first ever street bike a couple months ago, a 2006 CBR 600RR. I have noticed that sometimes under low RPM cruising, say 3rd gear around 35 mph, there is a kind of nasty rattle/vibration in the engine. I also notice sometimes when decelerating from higher RPMs as I drop through the 5k to 2-3k RPM range. I've heard the earlier F4i had a cam chain tensioner problem but I was told it had been remedied on the RRs. Does this sound like what I'm experiencing to anyone? Bike has 21K miles. Sounds like it to be honest. And in reality, the CCT is a typical "watch out for this.." item on any Honda.

 

Ok thanks. Any tips on getting an aftermarket unit? Are there upgraded ones or should I just go OEM?

 

APEs are cheaper, and don't fail, i.e. you can always tighten them. But you need to make sure its the right tension on the can chain.

The hydraulic ones fail, but its O.E. spec - kind of hard to go wrong.

FYI, I have had an APE on most of my Hondas. Hope that helps.

My old landlord cancelled my internet about 4 years ago, and now that I've moved I'm getting back into these forums. Wanted to update, just after my last post I bought a PSR manual cam chain tensioner. Think it was 90 bucks or so...
Anyways, after a short youtube tutorial on proper adjustment procedure I've been going strong ever since without issue. Just in case anyone else stumbles across this with the same problem!
