Default wrapping head pipe?

I just bought an f4 and the bike began to run really hot after 5-10 minutes of idling in my driveway. It also began to start smoking and smelling real bad. I noticed that the smoke was coming from the headpipe area. After looking, i noticed that the headpipe was wrapped tightly with the heat tape stuff(for performance purposes i guess) and it was burning on the exhaust. Im positive that this is the reason for the smoke and burning smell. Could this be the reason why my bike heated up so quickly? I was thinking about taking the cloth wrapping off of the exhaust. let me know your guys opinions.

Default RE: wrapping head pipe?

Wrapping + taping doesnt serve purpose really if nots a "race" only motor.

Wraps cause moisture to sit between the met and wrap...metal+moisture=rot or rust.

the header pipe is pretty open to the air, how much will wrap really help?
