Default Timing/ Ignition Problem?

Hello everyone,

Newbie here. So i just bought a 99 CBR 600. I was driving it for about a half hour yesterday and all of a sudden i stalled out at a stop sign. I thought it was strange because i dont ususally stall. But after after starting it back up and makinng it about 100 feet down the road, it started running very strangely. It wasnt responding to the throttle properly, it was backfiring, the tachometer was going crazy. The tachometer would read 0 sometimes even the the bike would be idling. it sounded like the timing was off or something. Im no mechanic by any stretch but before riding it, I did replaced the CCT so it definitly isnt that.

Any thoughts? plz

Welcome!

I would start by checking all the connections. Follow the harness around and make sure all the connectors are clean and tight. It seems to be fairly common for corrosion and moisture to cause all kinds of sudden problems. Pay close attention to the plugs on the front harness.

yeah, ill definitely do that as soon as I'm done this string of 12 hour shifts. i forgot to mention on how letting it sit/cool down for 10 or 15 minutes afterwards, it started up fine and drove home. It almost seemed like something got too hot. I spoke to a buddy of mine and he suggested the pulse generator. Apparently they habve been known to fail in somewhat the same manner. Is it possible that the PG would be off like that or would it just send no spark signal entirely?

I'm having a similar problem with my bike right now I would check either the rectifier or the stator. the charging your battery will also be really low if it is the rectifier and the bike needles will go crazy and eventually the bike just stall out. I replace the rectifier on my bikeand the bike ran well for a while however now I believe my stator need attention
