I recently bought a 99 600F4. I absolutely love the bike but it has a problem with one of the fuses. The fuse for the running lights blew out,so I replaced it. I turned it on and about 1/2 second after it blew out again. The blinkers, tail lights, gauges do not work. Iknow it's probabally a short somewhere. Any tips on how to trobleshoot it? Or maby someone had the same problem? Ithought I would get try and get some thoughts before I took into a shop.

 

I'd make sure they are hooked up correctly.

 

First guess is its in the wiring of the flush mounts. Has it always done this or after the install of the flushmounts? And does it blow as soon as you turn the key over, or after you try to use a blinker or something?

 

Take some plastics off and search for problems with the wiring (expsosed, worn through, etc) for the taillamps. The connections for the flushies may be backwards if there are no worn down wires. Good luck to you. She is a very nice looking bike and is worth the effort to diagnose the problem.

 

It burns out when I turn the key on. The gauges light up for about half a second before a poping sound comes from under the seat signaling my fuse has just blown.

 

I had a similar problem on my CBR F2 which was my previous bike. For me, it was my main fuse but everytime I'd replace it, the fuse would blow...It ended up being the regulator/rectifier in my case. I'm not saying this is the solution in your situation...cuz it could be the wires...but u try checking it out? gluck bro...btw good call on the red nd black haha. Same color as my f4

 

Sounds like you have a short to ground or a wire that is hooked up backwards. Electrical problemes are a real PITA, but can be an easy fix when found. Start with any aftermarket light and make sure they are hooked up properly-if so then take the plastics off and start looking at all the wires and connetions to see if they are broken, chaffed or exposed an toucking another wire ot metal. Do not installa bigger fuse to try to mask the problem.

 

I had that problem with my bike due to a terrible install of an undertail with integrated tail lights. Was fixed by re-soldering and shrink wrapping the wires. But look at all the wires running to any light on the bike that has been replaced. (it happened to me on the highway at night. scariest **** ever.)
