Default Seat Shaving

Hello all, I was curious if anyone has shaved their seat to lower the bike a little (1 inch) and if so, did it help you out. I don't want to have to lower the bike through the lowering link and then lower the front as well because the handling of the bike. Thanks in advance.

I've heard of this but can't find any info on it. Seems like the seat would be really uncomfortable if you took out 1 inch of foam. Have you looked into a little taller boot?

I haven't looked into a taller boot yet but I will look into it thanks. I hope someone can chime me in on their experience with shaving the seat.

Some people aren't as tall as others and would be more comfortable (especially at stop lights) if they were closer to the ground. Lowering the seat height an inch will lower the rider the same amount as lowering the suspension 1 inch but it won't affect handling.

I get it i figured it out right after i posted it i am 6 3 and every one i ride with is pretty tall also so that has never been an issue. But i would think lowering the bike would be better for that reason anyways. Our seats are kinda hard to begin with. Cant you lower the bike from the rear shock there is two nuts on the coil that can be adjusted it is just like a car with lowering struts

I just shaved my seat. I removed the seat from the bike, took the mounts off and removed all the staples. I then used a power knife and cut about 2 1/2 " off the front (where I sit) and then used a really good powerful stapler to put the thing back together. Remember to cut from the bottom because it won't be smooth like the top. I'm about 5'7" and I can now touch the ground a LOT better than before. I cannot really move the bike with my feet if there is any hillage, but it is better at the lights and turns. Just remember to use a good stapler and cut from the bottom. It is pretty easy and should only take an hour or so.

PS. With 2 1/2" of foam removed the seat is actually a lot more comfortable! Believe it or not that stuff is hard.

Good luck.

Dave
