rebuilding fuel pump
i just did a 6500-6800 mile trip across the u.s. in july with my f4. this bike has now been to both coast in less then a year. im on my second fuel pump. the second one was used. i parked the bike all last week and the fuel pump quits. i glad it happened in the drive way but pissed it happened at all. i took it apart and found the contacts on the back are about gone does any one no if you can rebuild the contacts instead of paying 100 bucks for a new pump.

i got it working. i filed the contacts flat, and alined them. it seems that the top contact moved and was touching the magnet shorting out the circut. as for mileage, i have put 25,000 in a year and 4 months on the f4. i have had it for 2 years and 2months. but i i didnt ride for 4 months due to an injury and 4 months rebuilding the bike. and 1 month after it got backed over and another month when someone hit me.

Running without it?
Has anyone tried bypassing the pump?
On my F3, I think I think I burned out the pump because I had an oversized fuel filter that got got a bunch of air in it anytime I had the tank off. This would lead to the bike cutting out because of the lack of fuel. Of course, I kept making it worse by taking the tank off to try and figure it out.....Anyway, it was shortly after I finally figured that out that the pump actually stopped working. I re-routed the hoses so it was simply gravity/vacuum fed, and rode it that way for a full year. I wondered if it might be a problem at very high sustained speeds - but I never had a problem with it. Since the pump is really just a transfer pump to make sure there is a consistent flow of fuel, the bike should run okay without it, just not as well as it's supposed to. Could there be any harm in running it like that until you get a fuel pump?
