pilot jet settings
#2
Your pilot screws should be screwed in clockwise gently until they 'bottom out'; be careful not to overtighten them! Now unscrew each one anit-clockwise 3 full turns. This is the basic setting for all 4 carburettors. Start the engine and let it warm up for a few minutes. Wait until the temperature gauge has reached around 65 degrees. Starting with No 4 carburettor (cylinders are numbered 1-4 from left to right of the bike) turn the pilot jet clockwise and anti-clockwise until the engine runs at its smoothest. Note by how much you have done this by taking a reference point on your screw driver. Now turn the other 3 pilot screws in or out as you did No 4 by the same amount. According to the Haynes manual you should now turn No 4 pilot screw in until the revs drop by 50rpm then out again by 3/4 of a turn, repeating this on the other three carbs. Personally if you get a nice smooth idle by doing the first part of this procedure, I'd be happy! The carburettors may still need balancing which would need to be done with a set of vacuum gauges or similar. This is best left to someone who has done it before. You could check out the cost of the whole procedure to be done at your local Honda dealer as it might be the best solution in the end. Hope this has been of some help to you? Take your time and good luck!
